Abstract:本文主要通过对方志史料的统计和分析，从时间顺序上阐述明清时期福建民间传统防御性聚落的发展过程、建造形式以及不同防御性聚落的类型特征，指出明代嘉靖之后，倭寇、山贼等社会动荡，民间聚族而居武装自卫，经常在官府默许支持下，各地大规模建造了土堡城寨，体现了明清时期乡村严峻的外部安全形势与宗族意识强化的特点。
