Graphite nanoparticles; epoxy resin
Graphite nanoparticles (GNPs) were synthesized facilely and environmentally friendly by the method of electrochemical oxidation, and used as fillers to reinforce epoxy resin. Possessing a certain number of oxygen functional groups and a partially ordered graphite crystal structure, the GNPs could be well exfoliated and dispersed into the epoxy matrix with the aid of ultrasonic processing. Thermal stability of the epoxy composites was improved by ca. 19 C with 5 wt% loading of GNPs, in addition to ca. 17MPa and 6% improvements of mechanical strength and toughness, respectively.
