Profile
Wang Xue Yu is a Professor of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Huaqiao University, China. Her main area of research lies in discourse studies, in particular, political discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis, covering the discursive construction and international communication of China’s governance in the New Era. She also works on health discourse studies,with the focus on the contributing factors for stress confronting PhD students and doctoral supervisors in Chinese higher education institutions. In addition, she explores an interactive teaching and learning model in translator education, which facilitates the teaching of courses within MTI programs and other training programs.
She holds a double degree of BA in English Language and Literature and Law from Huaqiao University and a MA degree in English Language and Literature from Fujian Normal University. She was invited to work as a visiting scholar at Western Sydney University with the support of China Scholarship Council(CSC) and Huaqiao University .
She has supervised postgraduate students’ research to completion, and currently supervises several Masters students’ research on Critical Discourse Analysis, Health Discourse Studies and Appraisal Theory. She has taught College English (Reading & Writing, Listening & Speaking) for about 27 years. Moreover, courses and workshops she conducts include Discourse Studies, Legal Translation and Multi-perspective Studies in Linguistics. In recognition of her excellent work service, she was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award for the 2014-2016 academic years; Excellence Service Award for Academic Years 2020-2021; the Qingshan Inspirational Teaching Grant in 2025.
She served as the Chair of the Teaching and Research Section of the College English Department of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Huaqiao University. Currently, she is a member of the Academic Committee of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Huaqiao University. She is appointed as the Vice Chairperson of the 5th General Branch of the China Zhi Gong Party at Huaqiao University. She also serves as a Special Supervisor of the 10th Term at Huaqiao University. She is a member of the Chinese Association for Logic. Additionally, she works as an external review expert for the Theoretical Weekly of Fujian Daily.
